Coptic Christians in Egypt
One
of the unintended consequences of Arab Spring in Egypt is Coptic Christians (who
some say are closer descendants to the Egyptians who built the pyramids) are
more at risk for persecution and sectarian-motivated violence now that the
Mubarak regime has been unseated. Say
what you will about Mubarak, he kept a lid on ethnosectarian violence in Egypt,
and protected the Copts. Here is a teaser
article from LIGNET (Langley Intelligence Group NET) on that situation:
With the Muslim Brotherhood's rise to power in Egypt, the country's beleaguered Coptic Christians are growing increasingly fearful that their plight will soon worsen. A senior Coptic Church official tells LIGNET what is really happening in Egypt under the rule of Mohammed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood and why Copts are more vulnerable than ever before.
