We’ve Got Some TQ-Like Trouble Right Here in Charm City

Yes, it starts with a “T” and it rhymes with “V”, and that’s “video.”  It seems Rev. Richard T. Lawrence delivered a homily supporting Maryland’s Question 6, a ballot referendum for same-sex marriage.  In addition to delivering the homily, it seems a video of said homily was on the parish’s web site.  Two days later, the video was gone and soon after that, the pastor was reading a letter from the Archbishop urging the congregation to vote against Question 6.

So boys and girls, what could Rev. Lawrence learn from TQ?

It’s a trick question.  I think Rev. Lawrence has TQ’s knack for getting in a jam down pat.  My only regret is how video inhibits the formation of legend.  There is no video of TQ’s controversial homilies, and very little audio survives.  As a result, the homilies, reinterpreted through parishioners, took on a life of their own, with no video, audio or transcripts to get in the way.  That is why the legend of TQ snatching rosaries out of the hands of parishioners survives (and thrives) to this day.  TQ insists he never did that, but the rumor lives on.
